Electrofusion is a simple way to connect PE pipes when butt welding is not possible (such as adding valves, elbows and tees). Use prefabricated fittings that contain electric heating coils that will melt the plastic of the fittings and pipes, thereby fusing them together.

1

The steps as below:

1. Pipe cutting: The connecting end of the pipe is required to be cut vertically to ensure that there is enough hot melt area. Commonly used cutting tools include rotary cutters, saw bows, plastic pipe scissors, etc.; high temperatures are not allowed during cutting to avoid high temperature deformation.
Clean the joints and mark the insertion depth line: Use fine sandpaper, a scraper, etc. to remove the oxide layer on the surface of the pipe, wipe off the dirt on the pipe and the connecting surface of the pipe with a clean cotton cloth, and mark the insertion depth line.
Putting the pipe fitting into the pipe: insert the electrofusion pipe fitting into the pipe to the specified depth, and connect the welder to the pipe fitting.

2. Correction: Adjust the positions of pipes and pipe fittings so that the pipes and pipe fittings are on the same axis to prevent eccentricity from causing weak joint welding and poor air tightness.

3. Electric welding: The time and voltage of electric heating should be in accordance with the regulations of the electric welding machine and the electric welding pipe fitting manufacturer to ensure that the best welding joint is obtained under the best supply voltage and the best heating time.

4. Cooling: Since PE water supply pipe joints can reach their maximum compressive strength only after they are all cooled to room temperature, other external forces will prevent the pipes and fittings from maintaining the same axis during cooling, which will affect the quality of the welding. Therefore, the connected parts must not be moved during cooling. Or apply external force at the connection.
